Popular among re-enactors, the great kilt, or feiladh mor, is basically a 6 yard long piece of your clan tartan cloth, double wide, that is pleated (or kilted) by the wearer using a belt. The cloth is laid out on a flat surface (a bed or floor) over a belt, and the pleats are formed by hand, leaving the first and last 18'' or so unpleated. The wearer then lays down on the pleated cloth, folds it around himself so that the unpleated sections lay over each other at the front and fastens the belt in place around his waist. When he stands up, he has the pleated kilt below the belt and a large plaid above the belt. This plaid can then be fastened as the wearer desires or simply thrown over the shoulders. The clansman’s great kilt often doubled as shelter from foul weather or as a blanket as well as clothing. Our great kilt kit includes 6 yards of 100% wool cloth from Scotland. BELT NOT INCLUDED.
